The 107th CBC, December 14th 2006 to January 5th 2007
Just for fun I'm putting this post up as an anchor for comments from anybody who want's to brag, discuss, or whatever on their participation in the Xmas Bird Count. If you wish to participate officially contact your local Audubon chapter. You can find it at http://www.audubon.org/states/index.php
The San Antonio chapter is doing their count on 17 December. Me I will be more flexible and take comments to this post any time during the time between 14 Dec 06 throug 05 Jan 07.
The Express News has a story on the results of the official bird count here. http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/neighbors/northeast/stories/MYSA122706.1H.SE.birdcount.1bc269c.html

23 December 2006 - Here is a baseline count from my daily walks.
There are somewhere between two dozen and four dozen Great Tailed Grackles that hang out in my "backyard". About a dozen White Wing Doves appear to mooch along with the Grackles. A lot of sparrows (Mostly Chipping and maybe some Brewers or Lincolns) I don't have a decent fix or yet. They tend to scatter quickly.
There are the previously mentioned Cardinals probably more than the two males that I saw together. So far I've only spotted one female.

14 November 2006 - First Day of the counting.
I'll limit my counting to my "Backyard" approx a 1 Mile Radius from my apartment.
08:10 - Things were quiet on morning walk - Probably because of a school bus moving through the area, and the grey skies and threatening mist/drizzle. Only one Great Tailed Grackle showed himself.
11:15 a pair of male Cardinals made themselves known in the trees beside my balcony.

I know it is not time for the Christmas Bird Count to start but I thought I would throw this out as an example and test.
Black Vultures in San Antonio.
On Sunday 10 December the weather was gray and drizzly.
On the Wurzbach Parkway, through the Voelker trust area, it appeared the entire Black Vulture flock was present. I counted 12 perched on the light standards.
