This is the opening post of a planned 8 - 10 day drive through Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri, with a possible deviation into Northwest Arkansas.
The purpose of the trip is partly mandatory - the 55th Reunion of my high school class on the 26th. Obligatory visits with some of the older family members. Beyound those minimums the rest of the trip is unplanned. There is a general goal of visiting some of the Civil War battlefields in the Trans-Mississippi theater that have been rescued over the past 15 - 20 years. I'll keep those posts in a separate category
I'll be traveling by 2004 Acura TL with a new set of tires. I'll be taking some risks with the back roads I will have to cover that are more suitable to the locals pickups and SUVs.
I will try to add something to this post every couple of days or so. My planned stop for today is on the west side of Fort Worth near what was Carswell AFB back when I was spent time there in 1960 - 61.
Traveled US 281, mostly, from San Antonio to
The weather was partly cloudy the day. Stayed at the Green Oaks hotel which is starting to show it's age after 30 years but it is still one of the main convention hotels in west Fort Worth.
Acura report: A rather disappointing 24 Mpg. The gas price for the refill was 3.39 gal. in River Oaks
Will be checking your blog!
Have a safe trip.
